Strauss (Archives D\u00e9partementales du Bas-Rhin).<\/em><\/p>\n En 1842, les faces lat\u00e9rales de la nef de l\u2019\u00e9glise de Froeschwiller sont tellement d\u00e9labr\u00e9es et l\u00e9zard\u00e9es qu\u2019un \u00e9croulement est \u00e0 craindre. L\u2019\u00e9glise est ferm\u00e9e. Plusieurs projets sont \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude et se heurte \u00e0 l\u2019hostilit\u00e9 de monsieur Strauss-Durckheim qui souhaite pr\u00e9server ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s et en tirer des avantages. Finalement l\u2019ancien clocher est pr\u00e9serv\u00e9 et la nef change d\u2019orientation. L\u2019\u00e9glise prend feu. Les bless\u00e9s sont \u00e9vacu\u00e9s vers le ch\u00e2teau.<\/p>\n Un officier allemand d\u00e9clara aux habitants : \u201cLaissez-l\u00e0 bruler ! Apr\u00e8s la guerre nous la reconstruirons!\u201d<\/p>\n Suite \u00e0 l\u2019incendie de l\u2019\u00e9glise, il ne reste que les ma\u00e7onneries de la tour du moyen-\u00e2ge et de la nef de 1846. A l\u2019origine elle \u00e9tait de confession catholique et donc orient\u00e9e vers l\u2019est. A l\u2019\u00e9poque les \u00e9glises \u00e9taient \u00e9troitement li\u00e9es \u00e0 la f\u00e9odalit\u00e9. L\u2019\u00e9glise a donc \u00e9t\u00e9 construite sur les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s du seigneur poss\u00e9dant Froeschwiller. Un chemin de croix couvert entre le ch\u00e2teau et l\u2019\u00e9glise permettait aux seigneurs de s\u2019y rendre \u00e0 l\u2019abri des intemp\u00e9ries.<\/p>\n Les premi\u00e8res traces de l\u2019\u00e9glise remontent \u00e0 1552 o\u00f9 Cuno Eckbrecht de D\u00fcrckheim introduit la r\u00e9forme \u00e0 Froeschwiller et fit de l\u2019\u00e9glise le premier temple protestant d\u2019Alsace.<\/p>\n Au 17e si\u00e8cle, l\u2019Alsace devient une r\u00e9gion fran\u00e7aise. L\u2019\u00e9glise accueille simultan\u00e9ment les protestants et les catholiques.<\/p>\n Historique des travaux de l\u2019\u00e9glise :<\/p>\n Les seuls vestiges actuels de cette \u00e9glise sont des dalles fun\u00e9raires car il \u00e9tait de coutume avant la r\u00e9volution de 1789, que les seigneurs soient enterr\u00e9s dans l\u2019\u00e9glise. Elle doit repr\u00e9senter un m\u00e9morial de paix sur un sol gorg\u00e9 de sang ; un m\u00e9morial du souvenir pour tous les guerriers tomb\u00e9s. Elle fut nomm\u00e9e : \u00c9glise de la Paix et du souvenir<\/p>\n Le 6 ao\u00fbt 1872, soit 2 ans jour pour jour apr\u00e8s l\u2019incendie de l\u2019\u00e9glise, la premi\u00e8re pierre est pos\u00e9e lors d\u2019une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie solennelle par Son Excellence Monsieur von M\u00f6ller, haut pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019Alsace-Lorraine. Ainsi que les cloches de l\u2019\u00e9glise fondues \u00e0 partir de f\u00fbts de canons fran\u00e7ais<\/p>\n 4. de dons b\u00e9n\u00e9voles r\u00e9colt\u00e9s dans tout l\u2019empire allemand par le pasteur du lieu Klein et le pasteur S. Nielsen de Potsdam, et des participations des associations Gustav Adolf, etc. de 71.400 Fr. L\u2019am\u00e9nagement int\u00e9rieur a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 financ\u00e9 par de tr\u00e8s nombreux dons dont des villes allemandes.
